been a while old friend...

So this summer so far has been...memorable.
A lot has happened.

I'm still standing. (barely)
Music doesn't sound too sweet these days but home-grown Canadians, Junior Boys, have managed to find my eardrums, pick them up out of the darkness and send them in a new, positive and resolved direction.

I'll just say that I love you (blog) and I promise to never do this (not write) again.

...so Junior Boys, a relatively new-ish album (Begone Dull Care) that recently caught my attention at a friends dinner party. I think we had rented plates...at least I hope we did.
After a few glasses of Penfolds the low, constant pulsation of Parallel Lines hummed its way through the conversation and into my head.
Think Erasure, but slower, sexier and less churchy.

exploit.

Exploiting dubstep never sounded so good (and kinda whiney...but still really good!!)

Capetown's music scene is still booming., abundantly stocked with producers, artists and most importantly kids who want to dance.
Venture out on a fantastic European tour is Sweat.X's offshoot Playdoe. The group's philosophy is to keep their hip hop light, fun and fresh, inspired by early 80s legends in the field.

Playdoe perform their last of two London gigs tonight at Play it by Ear Club with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Brooklyn's Cubic Zirconia.

Enjoy these 3 downloads to get you in the mood!

A mix from Cubic Zirconia, tracklist as follows:

Sooo....where the fuck have I been?!

Chaz Jankel.
I'm really really really sorry I didn't find out about you earlier.
You've been around since the late 70's/80's, have been described as a "synthesizer auteur" and you are STILL in the public ear, getting remixed by dudes like Todd Terje (FAVE!) and releasing new material. You even did the soundtrack for Making Mr. Right.

I'm going to try and track down as much of the good stuff as I can Mr. Jankel.

Again, my apologies for not having addressed you sooner.

Yours,

FBC.

just felt right...

A smouldering jazzy tune from Food of the Gods, a little ensemble that is featuring the lead singer lady from Cibo Matto. Spooky sexy lady vocals over a splashy snare.

Just steamy....

French-Electro-Ghetto-Tech

Le Le is a project by the Dutch artists P. Fabergé, Piet Parra and Rimeroni Vumani. The number of creative side projects these guys are involved in is immense. Lele fall somewhere in the euro-pop porn electro experimental ghetto tech category. The deep bass and easy lyrics of tracks like Disco Vraiment lend well to dirty dancing and emphatic sing-alongs. Just wish I could add a little vocal interlude in the middle somewhere to make it a real winner. Remix please.

Lele - Disco Vraiment

As well, their most well known track caught the eye of Audioporno remixer Terry Lynn.  He gifted us with the BREAKFAST remix, which you probably already have. If not, enjoy!

telefone home.

Telefon Tel Aviv.
You've taken my breath away with an endless synth.
If you like soft and cheesey, like a fine brie, this is for you.

manaia-mania.

So this guy, DJ MANAIA, from Portugal decided to mass email a bunch of people his mixtape and some original chainsaw kinda shit...
not too shabby.

Everyone posted his fidget tune "Pull Up (Rave 2009)" and "Fatty Girl V.02", a hybrid baltimore-hard electro potato mash.

I like the part when he calls the girl fat...

At any rate, I noticed that almost NO BODY posted the Mr. Oizo remix he effortlessly tacked onto the end of the email...
Maybe nobody else got that far....?

Keep the mass emails coming.

Postif (DJ MANAIA re-edit) - Mr. Oizo

(ps. the guy in the photo above is TOTALLY not the guy I'm posting about, although he DID have his picture in his personal myspace gallery...soo..

i dunno....)

Bit The Bullet.

So, I finally cracked and decided to try and churn out a little mix set to shop around because I totally don't have the $$ to buy fancy production equipment and start pumping out remixes ....

...I hope these little fun sets will keep you entertained long enough until I can.

just another Santogold hit on the zsharezzzz.

So I don't really dig Santogold normally...

and I can't seem to recall the last time I found Three 6 Mafia or any other Southern hip-hop interesting either...

(except for T.I. and maybe this sounds so much like "What You Know About That" I am willing to enjoy...)

At any rate, this song is dying to be used in a good montage in some youth related dance-and-get-off-the-streets kind of movie.

is it summer yet?

I'm already aching for summer to be here.
I was reminiscing about the patios, the beach, the clothing.
I want sunglasses and picnics.

so in the dead of winter, i give you this little shuffley-island style gem by Jack Penate that completely conjurs the warmth we're all so desperately in need of right now.
I smell a summer anthem here folks...
